Today is National Caregiver Day. This day honors caregivers who grace the world with their dedication to service and selfless nature.
At EQC home care, we understand how important caregivers are. Caregivers care for those who are unable to care for themselves. There are more than 43 million unpaid caregivers in the United States. Did you know caregivers spend an average of 13 hours a month doing meal prep, running errands, transportation, and housekeeping? Responsibility often weighs heavy for those who provide caregiving either as a profession or to care for their loved ones. It can be difficult to find time to care for yourself. The lack of self care that many caregivers deal with can lead to physical and mental fatigue. To celebrate National Caregivers day, we’re sharing our advice to help support your mental health and well being.
Treat Yourself
With all that you do for others, take a moment to treat yourself. This can be as elaborate as a well needed vacation or something low key like uninterrupted time reading or listening to your favorite music. You can even purchase anything that will make you happy, such as clothes, a meal, or even electronic devices. We know it sounds strange, but buying yourself a little gift is a great way to respect and acknowledge your efforts.
Restart Your Favorite Hobby
Being a caregiver requires time and energy which often limits our ability to focus on the other things we love like hobbies. Caring for yourself means finding space to explore our own passions. Make a plan and schedule a time where you can dive into your hobbies. This will not only feed your soul but also relieve your stress and anxiety. Not to mention, you will feel more motivated and passionate about performing your caregiving duties when your heart is happy and satisfied.
Get Help
There is no shame in hiring someone to help you. This will not only provide much needed relief but also offer excellent support to your loved ones. At EQC home care, we meet with you to understand your exact needs. We have professional caregivers who can offer respite care, nurses to manage medical conditions and a pharmacist who can manage your loved one’s medication. We offer complete home health care to help families like yours. Most importantly, we work with you and your family to create harmony and provide the best care for your loved ones.
Bottom Line
National Caregivers Day is a day to celebrate everything you do for others. We hope you know that caring for yourself is as important as caring for others. If you or someone you know is a caregiver, give them your support and help them enjoy the day too.
